About Jungshin Taekwon-Do clubs & the martial art of Taekwon-Do
Jungshin Taekwon-Do teaches the Korean martial art of Taekwon-Do, in the original ITF style. We have various martial art clubs and classes to cater for all ages and athletic abilities. Here we show just a few things that incorporates the martial art of Taekwon-Do and practised in our training sessions:
 |
 |
Fitness building, strength conditioning and exercises
All Taekwon-Do classes put some emphasis on a healthy body by building fitness and strength conditioning essential to martial arts. This includes aerobic and anaerobic fitness, and full body strength from core to extremities. Our regular, fast and dynamic movements develop explosive power. Martial arts are among the most effective forms of fat burning and building a strong, toned musculature. |
 |
discipline, confidence and moral fortitude
Because the techniques being taught are potentially dangerous it is important that students are taught in a disciplined and controlled environment. This means that students are to demonstrate the tenets, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit at all times. The students can expect this code to be modelled by the instructors and seniors within the class. More info - click here. |

SPARRING AND DRILLS
We practice sparring (punching and kicking an opponent using padded protective equipment in a controlled environment). You will practise punching and kicking combinations, to work on reaction time and speed of movements. At club level you practice free sparring without full contact and using as many different techniques as possible. Students may wish to enter our regular regional and national tournaments. |
 |
traditional techniques and patterns
Over time our techniques have been improved by applying scientific principles to them. Students learn the fundamental techniques, applying them firstly on their own. In time as co-ordination improves then the techniques are put together to form a sequence of moves, known as a patterns, a combination of technical accuracy, power, balance, realism and grace. |
 |
kids classes (4-7 years classes & 7-12 years classes)
Although kids learn the same Taekwon-Do syllabus as adults, we recognise that their training needs can be very different. We offer specialised kids classes, which take into account their physical and emotional stages, and emphasize our tenets of Taekwon-Do : Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit. The youngest children follow a specially designed programme, which has been formulated to introduce the skills in a carefully structured sequence, while still retaining the fun element which is so vital to any kids programmes.

self defence for escaping holds
Self-defense methods repeated in many different situations so the defender can act swiftly and competently. The self-defence taught at the coloured belt levels is focused on low level, non life threatening situations, releasing techniques, moving on to controlling techniques at higher ranks. Black belt self-defence focuses on ground work, weapon defence and more life threatening situations. |
 |
self defence for real situations
You will learn to defend yourself from attack, and learn how to avoid situations where you may be in danger. In Taekwon-Do we teach how to talk your way out of danger as a first step, and if it comes to it, how to defend yourself if you are being attacked. In club you will learn how to escape from holds, as well as how to perform them. We also teach how to avoid, diffuse or escape dangerous real-life situations. |
 |
STEP SPARRING, MODEL SPARRING and SEMI-FREE SPARRING
Once the techniques have begun to develop the students are shown how to use the techniques with a partner. A structure sequence of sparring disciplines are taught starting with step sparring which is short sequences of attack and defence moves performed together. Later the students get to do the sequences of sparring in both slow motion and then in normal speed; this is called Model sparring. |
 |
flying kicks and special techniques
Taekwon-Do is world renowned for its flying kicks. During classes you will learn many different jumping and flying kicks including kicking with both feel at the same time and doing multiple kicks in the same jump. They are one of the best ways to show off your skills. In tournaments you can compete in the 'Special Technique' category, where you perform 5 kicks which test your skill in jump height and distance. |
 |
destructions and board-breaking
The purpose of this discipline is to develop good technique in students. Through doing destructions the student learns the effectiveness of their techniques and builds confidence. The breaking material is usually specially designed re-breakable plastic boards or wooden boards (2.5cm thick). Sometimes other materials are used, such as pine wood boards, tiles or bricks. This is always done in a safe environment. |
